About Us

Sol Tryp, Inc, was founded by Deborah Thorne and Hector Lerma, licensed medical providers in New Mexico, dedicated to delivering guided and medically supported ketamine journeys. With extensive experience and training in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD,substance-use disorder, to name a few, Deb and Hector continue to explore ways to make psychedelic healing accessible and equitable for all. Sol Tryp is fueled by a marvelous team of dedicated volunteers and members who have the same vision for healing community, Mother Earth and all her children.

History

Sol Medicine Project, operating under the name Sol Tryp, Inc., officially gained non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization in early 2023. Motivated by the recognition of a critical need for equitable and accessible healing opportunities, our mission centers on extending support to marginalized and underserved communities. We extend our respectful acknowledgment, recognizing that our work takes place on the unceded territory of the Piro-Manso-Tiwa Nation, now identified as Southern New Mexico.

Deborah Thorne, DMSc, MS, BA, PA, CIPP

Co-Founder, CEO

Deborah Thorne is the founder, Co-owner, and Clinical Director of Medicina del Sol Integrative Healthcare in Las Cruces, NM. Also, CEO and Medical Director of Sol Medicine (Sol Tryp), a 501(c)(3) non-profit ensuring affordable and safe access to psychedelic medicines. She holds degrees and certifications in exercise science, manual therapy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, yoga, meditation, wellness coaching, and integrative psychiatry. She is licensed as a Board-Certified Physician Associate and Doctor of Medical Science. trained and certified in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and psilocybin-assisted therapy, currently completing a
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Practitioner Certification through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in Colorado. She is deeply rooted in First Nation healing traditions of her community in Manitoba, Canada. She honors the teachings and sacred songs and medicines that were passed on to her by the Elders and medicine people in the community. Guided by the ancestral voices of the past and present, she is dedicated to honoring the medicines in a reverent and respectful manner.
Hector Lerma, MD, PharmD

Hector Lerma, MD, PharmD

Co-Founder, Chief Financial Officer

Dr Lerma is an Internal Medicine Physician, Chief Operating & Financial Officer for Sol Tryp, and a Co-Founder of Medicina Del Sol. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara Mexico and facilitated his Internal Medicine Residency training at Mount Sinai Medical Center at Richmond University Medical Center in New York City, Veterans Affairs in Salem, Virginia, and LewisGale Hospital in Blacksburg, Virginia. Early in his career, Dr Lerma attended the University of Houston and acquired his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In his spare time, Dr Lerma enjoys spending time further understanding the various psychedelic entheogens and medicinal therapies to further advance the betterment of patient outcomes. Both Drs Lerma and Thorne have treated hundreds of patients with ketamine for the management of treatment-resistant depression, suicide, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and bipolar disorder. These experiences have been both enlightening and transformative for the majority of patients.
Marlon Minera, MD, MPH

Science Director

Marlon G. Minera MD is a dedicated Internal Medicine physician specializing in Geriatrics, with extensive experience in direct patient care, palliative, hospice, and skilled nursing facility management. Dr. Minera has consistently prioritized compassionate and individualized care for older adults, addressing their unique medical, emotional, and social needs.

With specialized training in Geriatrics, palliative, and end-of-life care, Dr. Minera focuses on providing comfort and dignity to patients with advanced illnesses. By emphasizing symptom management, emotional support, and shared decision-making, Dr. Minera ensures that patients and their families receive compassionate care during challenging times. Dr. Minera also integrates alternative approaches, including the therapeutic use of psychedelics, to address pain, anxiety, and existential distress in end-of-life care.

Dr. Minera plays a pivotal role in managing post-acute and chronic care for geriatric patients. By collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, Dr. Minera is deeply committed to ensuring a seamless transition of care, helping patients regain independence and maintain dignity.

LeeAnn Meadows, born and raised in Humboldt County, California, now calls New Mexico home. She lives on the outskirts of Las Cruces with her artist/husband Glenn Schwaiger and two dogs in an old adobe motor court surrounded by pecan trees. Psychedelic medicine helped LeeAnn to heal from CSA and C-PTSD. She feels passionately about the power of psychedelics and believes in making plant medicine more accessible. After a career in pediatric physical therapy, LeeAnn now enjoys writing poetry, calligraphy, bookbinding, and gardening.

Professor Michael W. Collard received his PhD in Biochemistry from Washington State University in 1987, and has served on the medical school faculty at Southern Illinois University, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and at the American University of the Caribbean, Sint Maarten. He has over 40 years of research experience in the fields of medical biochemistry, molecular biology and molecular genetics.

Valerie began working with the Drug Policy Alliance New Mexico in 2001. We ran our first Medical Cannabis Bill “Lynn Pierson Compassionate Use Act” in 2001. We passed “The Lynn & Erin Compassionate Use Act in 2007. Worked on and passed many other progressive bills throughout the years.Began working on The Cannabis Reform Act in various forms in 2012. Passed the CRA in 2022. Essentially I spent 21 years on passing these Cannabis bills.I have been a part of the NM Industry town halls as we reach out to the Industry for data gathering and teach folks to become advocates for their Industry in New Mexico.Deputy Director at El Paso NORML.

Mat is a Brazilian-American chemical engineer passionate about creating equitable access to compassionate mental health care. Having worked at the frontier of biologic therapeutics as a scientist during the COVID pandemic, Mat underwent training on psychedelic medicine in hopes of building a more informed, connected, and integrated world. During 2021, Mat worked as Support Staff for a men’s substance-use-disorder Recovery Residence in Somerville, MA and volunteered in Hospice care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Moving to Las Cruces in 2023, Mat aims at changing how New Mexico can prioritize mental health, shed stigma, and spur collective action to grant access to life-changing medicines.

Ciarra was born and raised in New Mexico, where she and her family now reside on a small farm outside of Las Cruces. She holds a M.S. Psychology and M.ED. Diagnostics and has worked in the field for over a decade, now as a consultant. Current offerings include yoga, yoga therapy, and sound therapy in a healing yurt. She is currently pursuing a post-graduate certification in Jungian depth psychology, Stanislav Grof’s holotropic breathwork, and training as a shamanic practitioner from a variety of cultures with an emphasis on Celtic shamanism. As a participant and practitioner of non-ordinary states of consciousness, she actively advocates for these natural means of improving mental health, including psychedelics with supportive integration.

Fernanda Quevedo was born and raised in the border metroplex, El Paso – Ciudad Juárez. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience with a minor in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin (UT). While at UT she first got involved in supporting mental well-being, conducting undergraduate research on a pre-clinical model of post-traumatic-stress-disorder (PTSD). Fernanda served as Program Manager for a clinical and translational research program in Gastroenterology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She found strength in supporting rare disease research for underrepresented groups and quality of life research for those living with a chronic illness. More recently, while working at MAPS PBC, Fernanda supported MDMA-Assisted Therapy as a treatment for PTSD. Fernanda feels passionately about working to destigmatize and improve access to psychedelic substances to help those who are overburdened by their symptoms and help us connect to ourselves and each other in more meaningful ways.
